Element Knife Co. is a specialty culinary knife shop in the Platte Street district of downtown Denver.

The layout of the retail store features a ‘room of many uses’, where the owner can lead knife skills instruction, sharpen knives, and record demo videos.

Careful planning resulted in a solution that required many of the display pieces be modular, in effort to allow for multiple arrangements that satisfy the current desired
use of the space.

A grid of wood-colored battens is hung over the work area, initially concealed from view by a solid wall from afar, and then revealing itself as one moves towards the back of the store. The wood-toned batten grid glows from the lights above, casting hue and shadows, like a Japanese screen (shoji).
