Hillside Retreat
Hillside Retreat is perched atop a steep hillside overlooking Dakota Ridge, an imposing rock formation just 100 meters beyond the rear deck. The home was designed for a family with an appreciation for modern architecture that is based on classical principles of ‘proportion’, ‘symmetry’, and ‘harmony’. The two living wings of the home are symmetrically arranged about a tall ‘great hall’ volume that extends from the front entry porch all the way through the rear of the home.

Instead of wrapping the deck entirely around the rear of the house, it is intentionally stopped short of the upper and lower living rooms, to reveal a two-story facade with unblocked views of Dakota Ridge beyond.
