Old Las Palmas

Old Las Palmas is a renovation and expansion of a Spanish style, Midcentury Modern home in a premiere neighborhood in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs is well-known for its indoor-outdoor lifestyle. Our client’s primary goal was to contemporize the home with a large interior remodel and to cover their previously uncovered outdoor entertaining areas with a new, deep roof extension. The starkly enclosed existing kitchen and living room walls were removed and infilled with an arrangement of operable windows and doors, in order to blur the living experience between the interior and exterior spaces.

The result is an expansion that looks as if it’s always been a part of the home.

The entire rear face of the main building was removed and replaced with stepped perimeter of operable glass walls and a larger interior kitchen.

The roof of the main building was replaced with a new hip-shaped roof, which now boasts a massive overhang to shade the living spaces below.

The owners can now fully capitalize on the unique lifestyle and climate of Palm Springs with a larger kitchen and living area that flows out to year-round outdoor living and dining.
